Summary: The SCADA Engineer role involves designing, developing, implementing, and testing HMI/SCADA control systems, with a focus on producing high-quality engineering documentation. The position requires collaboration with engineering teams to ensure the delivery of integrated and secure control systems. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in SCADA systems, particularly with Rockwell FactoryTalk View, and will be responsible for maintaining delivery schedules and managing technical issues. This is a 12-month contract based in Warrington, UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement HMI/SCADA applications (e.g., Rockwell FactoryTalk View), including control faceplates, modules, and display screens.
  • Produce comprehensive engineering documentation, including requirements capture and traceability, system/functional design specifications, detailed software system specifications, mimic specifications, coding standards, and test plans.
  • Support engineering leads in maintaining delivery schedules, reporting technical issues, and managing scope changes.
  • Collaborate with PLC engineers to develop control system architecture and network interfaces.
  • Conduct in-house and site testing of PLC/SCADA systems, ensuring version control and change management.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and training documentation for plant personnel.
  • Review engineering drawings for control system constraints and design impacts.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience designing and implementing HMI/SCADA control systems (Rockwell FactoryTalk View preferred).
  • Strong understanding of SCADA programming, object-oriented scripting (C++, VBScript, Python), PC/server hardware/software, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Experience with database/historian systems using SQL.
  • Demonstrable SCADA experience in industrial EC&I environments.
  • Ability to produce high-quality functional specifications, design documentation, and formal test specifications.
  • Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently or within an integrated engineering team.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced SCADA Engineer to design, develop, implement, and test HMI/SCADA control systems while producing high-quality engineering documentation. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams to deliver integrated, secure, and fully functional control systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement HMI/SCADA applications (e.g., Rockwell FactoryTalk View), including control faceplates, modules, and display screens.
  • Produce comprehensive engineering documentation, including: Requirements capture and traceability (URS/RTM) System/Functional Design Specifications (SDD/FDS) Detailed Software System Specifications (SSS) Mimic specifications, coding standards, and test plans Operation & Maintenance manuals and system rebuild documentation I/O, alarm, and message schedules
  • Support engineering leads in maintaining delivery schedules, reporting technical issues, and managing scope changes.
  • Collaborate with PLC engineers to develop control system architecture and network interfaces, supporting secure SCADA visualisation.
  • Conduct in-house and site testing of PLC/SCADA systems, ensuring version control and change management.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and training documentation for plant personnel.
  • Review engineering drawings for control system constraints and design impacts to ensure high-quality designs.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience designing and implementing HMI/SCADA control systems (Rockwell FactoryTalk View preferred).

  • Awareness of OT cybersecurity and developing cyber-secure SCADA designs.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field, OR demonstrable EC&I engineering experience with SCADA systems.
  • Desirable: Membership in a relevant professional institution (e.g., IET). Certified training in Rockwell or other SCADA visualization systems. Certified cybersecurity training.
