We are seeking an experienced SC Cleared User Researcher to support the delivery of a major government digital transformation programme.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team working on high-impact public services, helping to shape products and services that meet genuine user needs while adhering to GDS standards and best practice.
This role is ideally suited to a researcher with strong experience operating within agile delivery environments, who is comfortable influencing stakeholders and translating user insights into actionable recommendations that drive service improvement.
Contract Details
Role: User Researcher
Rate: £570 per day
Engagement: Inside IR35
Duration: Initial 6-month contract
Extension Potential: Likely extensions beyond the initial term
Location: Hybrid working
Onsite Requirement: 2 days per week in London
Essential Requirements
- To be considered, candidates must meet all of the following:
- Hold Active SC Clearance
- SC clearance must have been used within the last 12 months
- SC clearance must not expire within the next 3 years
- Demonstrable experience delivering GDS-aligned user research
- Strong understanding of the Government Service Standard and user-centred design principles
- Proven experience planning, conducting and analysing research across different stages of the product lifecycle
- Experience working within agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams
- Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver a range of qualitative and quantitative user research activities
- Develop research strategies, plans and discussion guides
- Conduct interviews, usability testing, workshops and other research activities
- Analyse and synthesise findings into clear, evidence-based insights
- Communicate research outcomes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Champion user-centred design principles across the programme
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Service Designers, Business Analysts, Content Designers and Development teams
- Ensure research activities align with GDS standards and contribute to successful service assessments
Ideal Background
- We're particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- Previous experience working on central government or public sector digital services
- Experience supporting services through Alpha, Beta and Live phases
- Strong stakeholder management skills within complex delivery environments
- Confidence working independently while contributing effectively within a wider team
- The ability to balance user needs, business objectives and technical constraints
