Summary: BAE Systems is seeking a Nuclear Safety Engineer to join their Submarines team in Barrow-in-Furness for a 6-month contract. The role involves applying engineering expertise to ensure the safety and compliance of submarine systems, providing technical leadership, and guiding other engineers. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure robust safety documentation and standards. This is a hybrid working role that demands strong technical and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake technical reviews and verify/sign engineering designs
- Provide guidance and direction to engineers, supporting their development
- Define qualification obligations for assurance hold points during build, test, and commissioning
- Ensure Safety Cases and supporting documentation are robust, compliant, and fit for purpose
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to incorporate requirements where appropriate
- Promote and share technical expertise, approaches, and standards across the business
Key Skills:
- Chartered Engineer (Eng) or equivalent capability
- Extensive experience in safety or environmental engineering, preferably in complex systems or submarine environments
- Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Salary (Rate): £74.68/hr

About the Role
BAE Systems is looking for a Product Safety Engineer to join our Submarines team in Barrow. This is a highly visible role where you’ll apply your engineering expertise to ensure the safety, compliance, and effectiveness of submarine systems and components. You’ll work independently or as part of a small team, providing technical leadership and guidance, and occasionally leading other engineers.
