Summary: The role of Residential Childcare Practitioner or Secure Residential Support Worker in East Sussex involves providing essential support to vulnerable children aged 10-18 who have faced trauma. Key Responsibilities:

  • Build safe, trusting relationships with children who may have experienced significant trauma
  • Deliver consistent routines, emotional support, and daily living assistance
  • Respond to challenging behaviour using therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches
  • Promote independence, self-esteem, and resilience in a nurturing environment
  • Work collaboratively with social workers, therapists, and multi-agency professionals
  • Maintain accurate records, risk assessments, and safeguarding reports

Key Skills:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare / Health and Social Care (or equivalent or relevant experience)
  • Minimum 6 months UK experience supporting children or young people in care
  • Understanding of trauma, attachment, and behavioural challenges
  • Emotionally resilient, calm under pressure, and committed to safeguarding
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility to work long days, sleep-ins, and weekends, as required by the rota
