Summary: The Research Fellow will lead the project management of a clustered randomised controlled feasibility trial, Project HIIT, aimed at improving physical activity among adolescents with intellectual disabilities/autism in Northern Ireland. This part-time position requires expertise in behaviour change interventions and substantial research experience in the relevant fields. The role involves planning, delivering, and evaluating the project within Special Education Needs Schools. The contract is fixed-term until March 31, 2027, with potential for renewal based on funding availability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead project management of Project HIIT, a school-based intervention for adolescents with intellectual disabilities/autism.
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate the project within Special Education Needs Schools throughout Northern Ireland.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative research, including feasibility/RCTs.
- Design and conduct process evaluations within physical activity research.
- Administer, collect, analyze, and report physical activity outcomes.
- Assess body composition and anthropometric measures in children with intellectual disabilities/autism.
- Publish research findings in the field of intellectual disabilities/autism.
Key Skills:
- Degree or equivalent in sport, health, education, or psychology.
- PhD with a focus on physical activity or behaviour change for children with intellectual disabilities/autism.
- Substantial research experience in behaviour change interventions.
- Experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- Knowledge of methodological barriers/enablers in school-based physical activity interventions.
- Experience in accelerometry and body composition assessment.
- Proven track record of publishing research.
