Summary: The z/OS Systems Programmer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and serviceability of DB2 subsystems, providing technical expertise in infrastructure and application design, and managing DB2-related products. The role requires a minimum of 12 years of experience and involves performance tuning, problem resolution, and project coordination in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong diagnostic and communication skills. This position is fully remote and classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor DB2 system storage, memory, I/O and CPU resources, design performance improvements.
- Perform daily checklists, review daily Db2 reports for anomalies, open service now tickets to application groups for problem resolution.
- Provide timely resolution to DB2 software related problems. Work with the IBM and ISV vendor Level 2 and technical support teams to identify DB2 software related problems.
- Respond to S1 calls. Evaluate all components within DB2 for stability or errors. Drive problem source identification to root cause, provide workarounds, and design preventive measures.
- Create and maintain DB2 Systems SOPs and Runbooks according to the provided format.
- Participate in the planning and recovery of the DB2 subsystems as part of Disaster Recovery.
- Utilize ServiceNow ticketing process for change control. Complete checklists for systems tasks and submit change controls for review in a timely manner.
- Manage DB2 Catalog/directory, WLM, bufferpools, zparms, PROCS, RLF, RTS. Build new subsystems or relocate existing ones upon request.
- Assist in the implementation of Data Studio + debugger.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to the internal DB2 community.
- Contribute to the on-going development of monitoring and trending metrics for DB2 using MainView shipped SMF database.
- Manage DB2 reorgs, runstats, rebinds, PROCS, RTS, RLF, stored procedures.
- Participation in writing REXX for automation/autonomics for preventative, corrective, and predictive measures for outage avoidance.
- Performance tune tablespaces, partitions, indexes. Assist the application staff in preparing well-tuned SQL for the business. Understand the difference between Explain, and run-time access path determination.
- Diagnose performance issues, considering data distribution, cardinality, join structures, bufferpools, and data sharing members.
- Using SMPE, IBMLINK, and ShopZSeries, upgrade and apply maintenance to IBM and BMC DB2 products.
- Perform project planning and management of software upgrades & product implementation to support DB2 environments. Install, support and customize licensed DB2 software and related tools (client & 3rd party vendors).
- Upgrade DB2 subsystem environments to newly released versions. Receive, apply and propagate software fixes across supported DB2 platforms, using SMP/E, etc.
- Coordinate maintenance and upgrades implementation with affected applications. Perform OEM problem analysis and resolution. Maintain OEM documentation.
- Create and maintain documentation in support of the DB2 environments. (E.g. Procedures, SOPs, Change Control, etc.). Implement advanced features/function of DB2 software (e.g. DB2 Data Sharing, native XML, etc.)
- Maintain DB2 at optimal maintenance levels, apply PTFs as needed. Coordinate maintenance and upgrades implementation with affected applications. Perform DB2 problem analysis and resolution.
- PRODUCTS SUPPORTED: BMC Catalog Mgr(ACT), Change Mgr(ACM), Log Master(ALP), MainView for DB2, Query Manager.
- Compuware File-Aid for DB2, IMS; RDX, DS.
- IBM InfoSphere Replication Server (Data Propagator).

- Informatica Power Exchange.
- Would be a plus: IBM DB2 Connect, and DB2 data sharing environment, Mainframe / DB2 secure transfers.
