Summary: The role of Interim Year-End Financial Accountant involves assisting Bury Council with the close down of accounts and audit for the 2024/25 financial year. The position requires extensive experience in Local Government finance, particularly in preparing and producing the statement of accounts. The candidate must be able to start on short notice and work fully remotely for an initial period of 3-6 months. Key responsibilities include managing the balance sheet, handling Collection Fund accounting, and liaising with external auditors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and produce core and supporting notes to the Council's statement of accounts.
  • Manage the balance sheet and reconcile key control accounts.
  • Handle Collection Fund year-end accounting and preparation of Group Accounts.
  • Complete robust and accurate supporting working papers within set deadlines.
  • Liaise with external auditors, providing necessary explanations and background working documents as required.

Key Skills:

  • CCAB qualification.
  • Demonstrable extensive experience in a similar role within Local Government.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the Code of Practice.
  • Strong technical skills and resilience to working within a changing team.
  • Excellent organisational, planning, and delivery skills, capable of managing very tight timelines.
  • In-depth knowledge of the details involved in the closure process rather than just coordinating it.
