Summary: The WordPress Architect role involves leading the architecture and implementation of high-scale, performance-driven WordPress solutions across multiple brand websites. The position requires extensive expertise in WordPress multisite architecture, Gutenberg block-based editing, and performance optimization strategies. The architect will collaborate with various teams to ensure brand consistency and efficient content workflows. This is a remote position based in the USA, classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect and lead multisite WordPress platforms optimized for scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Design and implement a modular, reusable theme architecture to support multiple brands under a single multisite umbrella.
- Define and optimize performance benchmarks including page load speed, Core Web Vitals, and server response time.
- Collaborate with Cloudflare/DevOps teams to resolve cache invalidation issues (e.g., metadata not refreshing) and implement smart caching strategies.
- Build and extend Gutenberg blocks to enable intuitive content creation and cross-site publishing.
- Integrate WordPress with third-party systems (CRM, analytics, APIs, forms, personalization engines).
- Drive the migration of legacy systems into a unified WordPress multisite or headless architecture.
- Champion coding standards, CI/CD pipelines, security practices, and deployment workflows.
- Work closely with UI/UX, SEO, and content teams to ensure brand consistency and editorial efficiency.
Key Skills:
- Expertise in PHP, WordPress Core, custom themes, and plugin development.
- Strong experience with WordPress multisite and block editor (Gutenberg) customization.
