Summary: The Senior VMware Specialist role is a fully remote position focused on managing and optimizing VMware environments while driving automation and modern infrastructure practices. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in complex production environments and a passion for solving technical challenges. This position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the scalability and reliability of the infrastructure. The role is outside IR35 and is offered on a 6-month contract basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and optimise VMware vSphere environments (ESXi, vCenter) including installation, configuration, upgrades, and performance tuning
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues across compute, storage, and networking layers
  • Design and implement automation solutions using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and PowerCLI
  • Contribute to and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support infrastructure and application delivery
  • Support monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, patching, and security hardening across virtualised platforms
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including networking, storage, and security
  • Support and deploy containerised applications running on Kubernetes

Key Skills:

  • Strong hands-on experience with VMware vSphere (ESXi & vCenter) in production environments
  • Solid understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Git-based workflows
  • Experience with automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or PowerCLI
  • Proven experience in incident response and advanced troubleshooting
  • Strong Linux system administration skills
  • Scripting/programming experience (e.g. Python)
  • Experience managing CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or TeamCity
  • Good understanding of security best practices in infrastructure environments
  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (EC2, Route 53, EBS) or Azure equivalents (desirable)
  • Experience supporting Kubernetes-based applications in production (desirable)
  • Familiarity with web server administration (e.g. Nginx, Apache) (desirable)

We're looking for a Senior VMware Specialist with strong expertise and a passion for automation to join a growing, forward-thinking technology team who are working on scaling their VMware Environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex production environments, enjoys solving deep technical challenges, and is keen to drive modern infrastructure practices such as Infrastructure as Code, automation, and cloud-native technologies.
