Summary: The VM Data Consultant role involves designing and configuring VMware HCX, vCenter, and NSX components, as well as performing wave-based VM migrations. The consultant will track migration performance, coordinate schedules, and interface with various teams to ensure successful migration processes. The position requires a proactive and skilled individual who can work independently and communicate effectively. This is a remote position for a client in the NYC Department of Social Services for a duration of 12 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and configure VMware HCX, vCenter, and NSX components at both source and target sites.
- Perform wave-based VM migrations using appropriate HCX mobility types (vMotion, RAV, etc.).
- Track migration performance, error handling, and validate post-migration performance.
- Coordinate phased migration schedule across all application tiers and environments.
- Interface regularly with application owners (pre/post testing, downtime planning).
- Interface regularly with network engineers (firewall rules, routing, L2 extensions).
- Interface regularly with backup team (freeze windows, integration testing).
- Maintain runbooks, status updates, issue logs, and executive summaries.
Key Skills:
- Experience with VMware HCX, vCenter, and NSX.
