About the role
Prominent is hiring a contract UX/UI designer for a short audit of a healthcare provider web portal, starting October 27, 2026.
You will evaluate the current portal, identify where users struggle, and help shape a prioritized roadmap of improvements. You'll work alongside a Prominent solutions architect and engagement manager, and you'll present findings to the client at the end.
There is a high probability of follow-on implementation work immediately following this UX/UI audit.
What you'll do
- Perform a heuristic evaluation of the portal, covering navigation, clarity, error handling, consistency, and user control.
- Walk through the highest-volume user tasks end to end to identify friction points, dead ends, and unnecessary steps.
- Review the information architecture, including menu structure, labeling, and content organization.
- Assess visual design and component consistency and identify where a design system or pattern library would help.
- Evaluate forms, field validation, and error messaging.
- Review how the portal performs across common browsers and screen sizes.
- Review existing artifacts, such as the public website and end-user training material.
- Turn findings into a prioritized backlog of enhancements, working with the solutions architect on feasibility.
- Contribute to a final report and roadmap and help present findings to client stakeholders.
Required qualifications
- 3+ years of UX/UI design experience, including at least one formal UX audit or heuristic evaluation of an existing product.
- A portfolio that shows audit or redesign work on complex web applications, not just marketing sites.
- Strong skills in task flow analysis and information architecture.
- Ability to write clear, actionable findings and prioritize recommendations by impact and effort.
- Comfort presenting to client stakeholders, including non-technical leaders.
- Proficiency in Figma or a comparable design tool.
- Availability for the full October 27 to December 8 window at 25–40 hours per week.
Nice to have
- Experience with healthcare, insurance, Medicare, or other regulated-industry portals.
- Experience designing for government or government-contractor systems.
- Familiarity with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines.
- Experience with enterprise portal platforms or with document management integrations.
- Background in design systems or component libraries.
