Summary: The Senior UX Designer will play a pivotal role in shaping the College Board’s assessment authoring ecosystem by designing tools that support various stakeholders in creating and managing assessments. This position requires collaboration across design, product, and engineering teams, emphasizing usability, accessibility, and coherence. The designer will engage in research-driven design and take ownership of the user experience throughout the software development lifecycle. Key Responsibilities:
- Help shape the future of College Board’s assessment authoring ecosystem.
- Design tools that support educators, subject-matter experts, reviewers, and operational teams.
- Work in an interdisciplinary environment collaborating closely with design, product, and engineering.
- Balance user needs, technical constraints, and business goals while advocating for usability and accessibility.
- Emphasize systems thinking, research-driven design, and end-to-end ownership of the user experience.
- Develop a deep understanding of users and their workflows through research.
- Identify target users and form hypotheses around user needs and behaviors.
- Own and lead generative and evaluative research for products.
- Analyze business, technical, and operational requirements to inform design solutions.
- Collect and synthesize multiple data sources for design insights.
- Facilitate synthesis and alignment sessions using agile and lean methodologies.
- Create user journeys, service maps, and flows that capture current and future states.
- Produce wireframes, interactive prototypes, visual designs, and detailed specifications.
- Partner with Accessibility specialists to ensure inclusive experiences.
- Present design concepts and outcomes to product teams and stakeholders.
- Conduct design handoffs to engineering using tools such as Figma.
- Collaborate with other designers to align on shared patterns and standards.
- Contribute to UX and product strategy across the assessment authoring ecosystem.
- Help evolve shared patterns and systems for consistency across tools.
- Document and communicate design decisions and tradeoffs clearly.
- Participate in agile ceremonies, advocating for user needs and design quality.

In This Role, You Will:
Design & Implementation (70%)
- Develop a deep understanding of users, their workflows, and their needs through research and ongoing partnership
- Identify target users and form hypotheses around user needs and behaviors
- Own and lead generative and evaluative research for your products
- Analyze business, technical, and operational requirements to inform design solutions
- Collect and synthesize multiple data sources (e.g., research, surveys, analytics, accessibility reviews)
- Facilitate synthesis and alignment sessions using agile and lean methodologies

- Advocate for effective, lightweight design processes that work in an embedded model
