User Researcher - Public Sector

Role Overview

We are looking for User Researcher to support multidisciplinary Agile teams in understanding user needs and improving digital services.

You will assist in planning and conducting research, analysing findings, and helping teams make evidence-based, user-centred decisions.

Experience working within a data-focused environment would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver user research activities with support from senior researchers.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research using appropriate methods.
  • Test prototypes, concepts, and live services with users.
  • Analyse research findings and identify actionable insights.
  • Present research outcomes to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Help ensure user needs influence design and product decisions.
  • Work collaboratively with designers, developers, analysts, and product managers.
  • Promote user-centred design principles across Agile teams.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and support knowledge sharing.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience supporting user research, UX research, customer insight, or a related field.
  • Understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to synthesise findings into clear recommendations.
  • Experience working collaboratively within teams.
  • Passion for user-centred design and continuous improvement.

Desirable

  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • Exposure to GDS or public sector digital services.
  • Experience researching data-driven products, analytics platforms, reporting tools, or data services.
  • Understanding of how users interact with and consume data.

Ideal Candidate

An early-career researcher with a strong interest in user-centred design and experience, or an interest, in data-focused services and digital transformation programmes.
