Summary: The role of a Personal Injury Paralegal involves supporting a litigation team in managing personal injury claims under UK/Common Law principles. The successful candidate will engage in case preparation, document management, and client communication while drafting legal documents related to various personal injury claims. This position is structured as a permanent work-from-home opportunity for an Independent Contractor. The role requires a commitment of 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Eastern Time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial client interviews and obtain instructions.
- Prepare draft pleadings, witness statements, and schedules of special damages.
- Review medical records and expert reports; liaise with medical experts where needed.
- Draft correspondence to insurers, opposing solicitors, and the court.
- Assist with the preparation of trial bundles and court documents.
- Conduct legal research on liability and quantum using UK/Common Law sources.
- Liaise with clients, experts, and counsel throughout the litigation process.
- Manage court timetables and limitation dates.
- Maintain accurate case records and client files in accordance with compliance requirements.
- Attend court (remotely or in person) to assist counsel and solicitors as required.
Key Skills:
- Paralegal certification or relevant legal qualification (LLB, CILEx, etc.).
- At least 2 years of experience in personal injury law, ideally within a UK/Common Law context.
- Solid understanding of negligence principles, duty of care, causation, and damages.
- Familiarity with the Pre-Action Protocols and Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).
- Strong legal drafting and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with legal software and case management systems.
- Experience with MOJ Portal claims and fixed-cost regime.
- Knowledge of rehabilitation protocols and insurance industry practices.
- Familiarity with international personal injury cases involving British expatriates or cross-border claims.
