Key Responsibilities:
- Define, own, and communicate test strategies aligned to delivery, business risk, and government service standards.
- Select and tailor test approaches (manual, automated, exploratory, risk-based) appropriate to complex systems and integrations.
- Provide authoritative advice on test scope, entry/exit criteria, and quality risks to delivery and product leadership.
- Balance pragmatism with assurance, ensuring proportionate testing within agile delivery constraints.
- Lead the design and evolution of automated test frameworks (UI, API, or service-level), aligned to the team’s technology stack.
- Define what should and should not be automated, considering value, maintainability, and risk.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and advise teams on improving feedback cycles.
- Evaluate and recommend client community testing tools, frameworks, and practices to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
- Plan, build, and execute non-functional testing activities, including performance, accessibility, security, resilience, and interoperability.
- Work collaboratively with specialists and suppliers to ensure appropriate coverage where tooling or expertise is shared.
- Interpret test results and articulate business and user impact, not just technical outcomes.
- Ensure NFT evidence is sufficient to support confident release decisions.
Key Skills:
- Expertise in test automation using JavaScript based test frameworks such as WebdriverIO, Playwright or Cypress.
- Open-source JS based libraries or frameworks for API testing, or Postman.
- Jmeter or K6 for load and performance testing.

Additional background Check for Flooding (CFF) is a high-volume, public-facing digital information service currently in public beta, providing real-time flood risk updates to help individuals understand and respond to immediate flood threats. Funded by the Environment Agency (EA) and delivered collaboratively by Digital, Data, Technology & Security (DDTS) and EA teams, CFF plays a critical role in national flood resilience. In addition to the public service, the team maintains and develops two key backend products that support the delivery and reliability of flood information. Committed to service resilience, continuous improvement and supporting business strategy, CFF refines its services through user feedback, innovation, and collaboration to better meet evolving needs. The team is a large, multidisciplinary agile development group focused on delivering high-quality, resilient, user-centered digital services.
The technical team comprises of four developers, a lead tester and this QA post. The specific skills required are below:
- JavaScript and Webdriver IO test framework
- Gitlab & Github source control
- Postman and Newman Cli for API testing
- CI pipeline - Jenkins
- Using reporting tools for automation tests
- Accessibility testing to GDS standards
- Compatibility testing using browserstack live and automate integration
- Using performance test tools such as Jmeter
- Using collaboration tools for requirement analysis and defect capture
- Working in an agile team to GDS standards and principles
