Summary: The role of Automation Tester involves joining a multidisciplinary team to ensure the quality of digital services for a central government client. The position focuses on automation frameworks, API testing, accessibility, and security, while collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver reliable and user-friendly software. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in automation testing and relevant programming skills. This is a remote position with an outside IR35 status.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure services are robust, accessible, and secure through automation and targeted manual testing.
- Validate that systems work across multiple browsers, devices, and environments.
- Focus on automation frameworks, API testing, accessibility, and security compliance.
- Collaborate with developers, service designers, content designers, and delivery leads.
- Maintain automated test scripts using programming languages like Ruby.
- Conduct cross-browser and cross-device testing.
- Utilize CI/CD pipelines for automated test execution.
- Perform performance testing using tools like JMeter and BlazeMeter.
Key Skills:
- Strong experience in automation testing, including browser-based frameworks (Selenium) and BDD approaches (Cucumber/Gherkin).
- Programming experience in Ruby or similar languages.
- Experience with API testing (RESTful APIs) and tools like Postman or Newman.
- Familiarity with accessibility testing tools (e.g., WAVE, pa11y) and security tools (OWASP ZAP / Dependency Check).
- Solid understanding of version control using Git, GitHub, or GitLab.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for automated test execution.
- Experience with performance testing tools (JMeter, BlazeMeter) is advantageous.
- GOV.UK Design System compliance knowledge is a plus.

We are looking for an experienced Test Engineer to join a growing multidisciplinary team, ensuring that services are robust, accessible, and secure. This role will play a key part in shaping the quality of digital products, using automation and targeted manual testing to validate that systems work across multiple browsers, devices, and environments. You will focus on automation frameworks, API testing, accessibility, and security, ensuring that services meet both user and operational needs. You will work closely with developers, service designers, content designers, and delivery leads to ensure software is reliable, user-friendly, and compliant with GOV.UK Design System standards.
Experience required:
- Strong experience in automation testing, including browser-based frameworks (Selenium) and BDD approaches using Cucumber/Gherkin.
