Summary: The Technical Project Manager will lead the technical project management for VFX pipeline, render farm operations, and storage initiatives within the Media & Entertainment sector. This role involves overseeing project delivery, collaborating with various teams, and driving innovation in automation and operational excellence. The position requires extensive experience in managing render farms and a strong understanding of VFX production pipelines. The role is remote and classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead technical project management for VFX pipeline, render farm operations, and storage initiatives.
- Oversee end-to-end delivery of projects, ensuring scope, timelines, and quality are achieved.
- Collaborate with engineering, pipeline, and creative teams to optimize render farm scheduling, throughput, and scalability.
- Develop and implement storage strategies (high-performance storage, archival, cloud/on-prem hybrid).
- Anticipate and mitigate challenges related to render farm performance, queuing, software licensing, and compute scaling.
- Run operational scrums and sprints, ensuring teams adhere to agile best practices.
- Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders on render farm and VFX pipeline technologies.
- Track KPIs around render performance, job completion, storage utilization, and cost optimization.
- Communicate project status, risks, and dependencies to executive stakeholders.
- Drive innovation in automation, workflow orchestration, and operational excellence.
Key Skills:
- 10+ years of technical project management experience in Media & Entertainment, preferably VFX, animation, or post-production.
- Proven experience managing render farms (e.g., Deadline, Qube, OpenCue, or equivalent render management software).
- Strong knowledge of storage strategy high-speed storage, NAS/SAN, cloud storage, archival systems.
- Experience in Agile methodologies running scrums, sprints, and backlog management.
- Solid understanding of VFX production pipelines, rendering processes, and GPU/CPU compute infrastructure.
- Ability to translate complex technical challenges into actionable project plans.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
