Summary: The Technical Product Owner (TPO) for Preferred Drug List (PDL) and Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) is responsible for leading the development of PDL solutions with a focus on healthcare expertise and technical proficiency. This role involves managing the product lifecycle, defining roadmaps, and collaborating with various teams to ensure compliance and delivery of high-impact features. The TPO will also analyze data to inform product decisions and act as a subject matter expert for stakeholders. The position is remote-first with occasional in-office collaboration and requires a proactive leader with a strong background in healthcare and product ownership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and drive the full product lifecycle for PDL solutions from strategy and design to delivery and optimization.
- Define and communicate a clear product roadmap aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.
- Translate business needs into detailed technical requirements and user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
- Lead backlog prioritization and sprint planning to ensure timely delivery of high-impact features.
- Collaborate with engineering, data, and clinical teams to deliver scalable, cloud-native solutions.
- Guide development teams with technical insights, ensuring architectural integrity and performance.
- Analyze drug utilization and formulary data using SQL and reporting tools to inform product decisions.
- Ensure compliance with federal/state regulations and internal quality standards.
- Champion rigorous testing, validation, and continuous improvement practices.
- Act as the PDL subject matter expert and trusted advisor to stakeholders.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Pharmacy, or related field.
- 6+ years as a Product Owner or Technical Product Owner in healthcare or pharmacy domains.
- 4+ years of experience with PDL, Formulary, and Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM).
- Prior hands-on programming experience, especially in cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with large healthcare datasets.
- Familiarity with formulary management systems and drug classification standards (e.g., NDC, RxNorm).
- Deep understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, SAFe) and experience leading Agile teams.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Experience with API integration, data pipelines, and cloud-native architectures.
- Knowledge of healthcare compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset.
