Summary: The Technical Lead for the Data Protection & Classification Programme is responsible for designing and delivering an enterprise data classification and protection initiative. This role involves leading the implementation of Microsoft Purview-based data controls and developing necessary policies and frameworks to ensure data ownership and accountability. The position is remote and initially offered as a 6-month contract, working 4 days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end delivery of the Data Classification & Protection programme
- Define roadmap, milestones, deliverables and success measures
- Manage pilot rollout (eg HR, Investor Relations, Finance) and phased enterprise deployment
- Report progress, risks and decisions to executive stakeholders
- Design and implement Microsoft Purview configuration (data discovery, sensitivity labels, DLP, encryption)
- Ensure integration with M365, SharePoint, Exchange and structured data sources
- Establish monitoring, alerting and reporting mechanisms
- Develop and formalise Data Classification Policy
- Develop and formalise Data Handling & Protection Standard
- Develop and formalise Data Retention & Lifecycle Policy
- Develop and formalise Data Ownership & Stewardship Model
Key Skills:
- Experience with Microsoft Purview and data protection technologies
- Strong understanding of data classification and governance frameworks
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage stakeholder expectations
- Excellent communication and reporting skills

Role Purpose
We are seeking a Technical Lead to design and deliver our enterprise data classification and protection programme.
The role will lead the implementation of Microsoft Purview-based data discovery, labelling and protection controls, while also developing the supporting policies, standards and operating model required to embed data ownership and accountability across the organisation.
