Summary: The role of Technical Accountant involves supporting a local authority finance team on a 6-month contract, focusing on capital and treasury management. Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the preparation of Statement of Accounts and year-end processes
- Managing treasury functions, including cashflow forecasting and investment/borrowing decisions
- Producing treasury reports, including Prudential Indicators
- Maintaining fixed asset and grants registers
- Supporting capital budget coordination and monitoring
- Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and financial regulations
- Completing statutory financial and government returns
- Carrying out reconciliations and variance analysis
- Liaising with auditors, advisors, and internal stakeholders
- Contributing to financial planning and advising on technical accounting matters as required
Key Skills:
- Experience in local authority finance
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Proven experience in treasury management and cashflow management
- Experience with budget preparation and financial returns
- Strong Excel and financial systems skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
- Full or part CCAB qualification (or equivalent) or AAT qualified
- Experience with financial systems such as Tech One (or similar) is desirable

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Technical Accountant to support a busy local authority finance team on a 6-month contract.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a finance professional with strong capital and treasury experience to play a key role in delivering statutory financial reporting, treasury management, and budget support.
The Role
You will work closely with senior finance leaders to support the delivery of key financial functions, including final accounts, treasury operations, and capital programme management.

- Supporting capital budget coordination and monitoring

This role also involves contributing to financial planning and advising on technical accounting matters as required.
