Synon Developer

Summary: The role of Synon Developer involves designing, developing, testing, and maintaining applications using the Synon/2E modeling tool. The position requires collaboration with business users and QA teams, as well as troubleshooting production issues on IBM I. This is a long-term remote contract position that emphasizes strong technical skills in RPG and DB2/400. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in application development on IBM i systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using Synon/2E (CA 2E) modeling tool.
• Write or modify RPG/RPGLE, CL, and DB2/400 components generated from Synon models.
• Participate in solution design.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues on IBM I.
• Perform system documentation and code reviews.
• Collaborate with business users, QA teams, and other developers.
• Provide support during deployments and post-production.

Key Skills:

• 5+ years of experience in application development on IBM i (AS/400, iSeries).
• Proficiency in CA 2E (Synon/2E) modeling tool.
• Strong hands-on experience with RPG III/IV, RPGLE, and CLP.
• Solid knowledge of DB2/400 and embedded SQL.
• Understanding of ILE concepts, service programs, and binding directories.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with change management tools (e.g., Implementer).
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
