Job Description

The Senior Staff Network Engineer - Storage & High-Performance Networking will design, engineer, configure, automate, and troubleshoot high-performance network fabrics that support distributed storage and private cloud infrastructure.

This role requires a hands-on technical subject matter expert who can analyze latency, throughput, packet flow, resiliency, security, and infrastructure performance while helping define the technical architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer low latency, high throughput data center networks for storage and private cloud environments.
  • Configure and support Nvidia and Mellanox switching technologies and Nvidia ConnectX series network interface cards.
  • Design and support N+2 and N+3 redundant network environments with a focus on availability and operational resilience.
  • Implement and troubleshoot routing and traffic management using Border Gateway Protocol, Open Shortest Path First, and Quality of Service.
  • Integrate network fabrics with NVMe over TCP, distributed storage, hyperconverged infrastructure, and private cloud platforms.
  • Automate network configuration, deployment, monitoring, and operational processes through infrastructure as code and related tooling.
  • Troubleshoot Linux networking, packet flow, latency, throughput, and broader infrastructure performance issues.
  • Partner with Security Engineering teams to apply network security principles, segmentation, and appropriate controls.
  • Contribute to technical architecture decisions and provide hands on support within large scale infrastructure environments.

Required Qualifications

  • Expert level experience designing and engineering high performance data center networks.
  • Strong hands on experience with Nvidia and Mellanox networking and switching technologies.
  • Strong understanding of low latency, high throughput networking and its application to storage environments.
  • Expert level knowledge of storage centric networking protocols and technologies, including NVMe over TCP and NVMe over Fabrics.
  • Strong knowledge of Border Gateway Protocol, Open Shortest Path First, and Quality of Service.
  • Strong understanding of Software Defined Networking concepts and architectures.
  • Strong understanding of networking within distributed storage, hyperconverged infrastructure, private cloud, or similar environments.
  • Strong Linux networking knowledge and experience troubleshooting issues within Linux based infrastructure.
  • Experience designing and supporting N+2 and N+3 redundant and highly available network environments.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills related to network latency, throughput, packet flow, and infrastructure performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to automate network configuration, deployment, monitoring, or operational processes.
  • Strong understanding of network security principles and the ability to work effectively with Security Engineering teams.
  • Experience working with private cloud, data center, or other large scale infrastructure environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SONiC or a similar open networking operating system or Software Defined Networking technology.
  • Experience with Ceph or another distributed or software defined storage platform.
  • Experience integrating high performance network fabrics with Ceph, Nutanix, OpenStack, or Kubernetes.
  • Production experience with NVMe over TCP or NVMe over Fabrics.
  • Experience with network automation and infrastructure as code tooling.
  • Experience supporting Dell R660, Dell R760, or similar high performance server platforms equipped with Nvidia ConnectX series network interface cards.
  • Exposure to public cloud networking or private cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with security controls and network segmentation within storage and data center environments.
