Summary: The Sr. Healthcare Integration Engineer role involves architecting, implementing, and optimizing healthcare data integration solutions using HL7, FHIR, and C-CDA standards. The position requires collaboration with nationwide health networks and provider systems to enhance clinical interoperability workflows. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in healthcare interoperability engineering and a strong understanding of FHIR API development. This is a full-time contract position based remotely or in New Jersey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement healthcare data integrations with external health networks (QHINs and nationwide HIEs).
- Build high-performance RESTful API frameworks supporting FHIR-based interoperability.
- Implement FHIR R4 APIs and OAuth 2.0 security models for third-party integrations.
- Create detailed technical documentation including interface specs, data maps, and architecture diagrams.
Key Skills:
- 5-7+ years of hands-on healthcare interoperability engineering.
- Strong understanding of FHIR API development and RESTful service design.
- Proficiency in Python for data transformations and interface scripting.
- Deep knowledge of HL7 FHIR R4 resources, extensions, implementation guides (US Core, Argonaut, Da Vinci).
- Strong understanding of C-CDA clinical documents and practical experience transforming C-CDA to FHIR.
- Familiarity with healthcare terminology standards (SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10, CPT).
- Experience with integration engines such as Mirth Connect or InterSystems IRIS for Health.
- Experience building IRIS/Ensemble/HealthConnect channels, routing logic, and complex message workflows.
