Summary: The Sr DB2 Mainframe Systems Engineer / Architect role involves creating Low Level Design documents and providing technical support for client onboarding and migrations within a well-known mainframe managed services company. The position is fully remote and focuses on DB2 upgrades and support, with no on-call responsibilities. The candidate will engage with clients to troubleshoot database issues and work collaboratively with a team of mainframe professionals. Key Responsibilities:

  • Create Low Level Design (LLD) documents and provide technical knowledge to support Sales and Solution Architecture teams.
  • Perform Client Onboarding, Migrations, and complete end-to-end server builds.
  • Upgrade DB2 on zOS and associated ISV products.
  • Support DB2 for one or more clients, applying maintenance and performing upgrades as needed.
  • Engage in testing and monitoring of existing DB2 workloads after OS or CPU upgrades.
  • Work with clients to debug database-related issues.
  • Participate in Knowledge Transfer and shadowing of client environments.
  • Troubleshoot and solve DB2 System database and software-related issues.
  • Maintain working knowledge of WLM environment with respect to DB2.
  • Utilize DB2 Utilities, TSO, and FTP effectively.
  • Understand SMP/E and its role in the installation process.

Key Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience working within a z/OS environment.
  • Technical implementation skills for DB2 on zOS and related ISV software products.
  • Experience with SMP/E, including installation and maintenance for DB2 and related ISV software.
  • Proficiency in interacting with ISV vendors and problem determination.
  • Experience supporting DB2 zOS from a Systems or DBA perspective.
  • Familiarity with CICS or zOS Operating System is a plus.

Sr DB2 Mainframe Systems Engineer / Architect

  • Contract ( with option for hire in 6-12 months )

  • This role is in the TRANSITION team of my client where they bring in new customers' systems inhouse. My client is a well known mainframe managed services company with a very good work culture/ work life balance)
  • There is NO on-call support

As the Senior Solutions Delivery Architect, you will be responsible for creating Low Level Design (LLD) documents and providing technical knowledge to support the Sales and Solution Architecture teams, as well as interact with potential and new clients to assist with identifying components in scope for Client On-boarding and Migrations. You will be responsible for performing Client Onboarding, Migrations, and completing end-to-end server builds.

This includes being responsible for upgrades for DB2 on zOS and associated ISV products. You will also be engaged in the transition from client s in-house IT into our support.

The Senior Systems Programmer supporting DB2 for the Transition Team may be engaged in more than one migration or project simultaneously.

What You Will Do:

  • You will be engaged in the support of DB2 for one or more clients. Apply maintenance and perform upgrades as needed.
  • Upgrade and support ISV software related to DB2.
  • You will engage in the testing and monitoring of existing DB2 workloads after OS or CPU upgrades.
  • Work with clients to debug database related issues.
  • You will have the opportunity to meet with new clients as they enter Ensono and participate in Knowledge Transfer and shadowing of client environments.
  • You will work on a team of other mainframe professionals to transition new clients into Ensono s support.
  • Troubleshooting and solving of DB2 System database issues

What You Will Need:

  • Minimal Requirements include 5+ years of experience working within a z/OS environment. Familiarity with mainframe functional areas such as z/OS Operating System, Storage, Databases, CICS, and Disaster Recovery concepts.
  • Technical implementation skills required for DB2 on zOS and related ISV software products on the z/OS platform.
  • This includes experience with SMP/E, including base installation and maintenance application for DB2 and related ISV software.
  • Proficiency in interacting with ISV vendors, problem determination and resolution for the products identified above.
  • ISV products include, but are not limited to CA database tools, IBM database tools, Sysview, Omegamon, and Mainview.
  • Experience supporting DB2 zOS from a Systems or DBA perspective is required.
  • Experience with CICS or zOS Operating System a plus.
  • The successful candidate will have experience upgrading DB2 zOS.
  • Understanding of DB2 connect, Security exits.
  • DB2 data sharing in a SYSPLEX environment

Upon Hire by my client after the contract period, the anticipated salary range for this position is ($100,000-$150,000). Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors including relevant experience, knowledge, skills and other factors permitted by law.
