Summary: A SQL Server Consultant / DBA is needed for a 6-month contract with a large NHS organization to lead SQL Server upgrades and migrations while providing ongoing DBA services. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead critical SQL Server upgrades and migrations across a complex enterprise estate.
- Provide BAU DBA services and support legacy SQL Server platforms.
- Plan and execute major SQL Server migration projects from SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2025.
- Write structured migration and upgrade plans, and carry out performance optimization.
- Support development teams with T-SQL scripting and deployment.
- Manage terabytes of data within structured governance frameworks.
Key Skills:
- Strong SQL Server DBA experience in large enterprise environments.
- Previous NHS experience is essential.
- Proven experience upgrading SQL Server 2008 / 2012 onwards.

You will be working across a large-scale, multi-instance SQL Server estate, supporting legacy SQL Server platforms while planning and delivering major SQL Server migration projects. If you are an experienced SQL Server Consultant who can own migrations end-to-end, this is for you.
To be considered, you must have:
- Strong SQL Server DBA experience in large enterprise environments
- Previous NHS experience (essential)
- Proven experience upgrading SQL Server 2008 / 2012 onwards
- Demonstrable experience planning and executing SQL Server migrations
- Experience managing terabytes of data within structured governance frameworks
This is a practical SQL Server Consultant / DBA role operating across both BAU and project delivery. You will provide SQL Server DBA support across existing estates, support legacy SQL Server environments, and lead the migration from SQL Server 2012 through to SQL Server 2025.
You will write structured migration and upgrade plans, carry out performance optimisation, improve SQL Server stability, and support development teams with T-SQL scripting and deployment. The environment is large-scale, regulated, and delivery-focused. You must be confident working independently and taking full ownership of SQL Server migration workstreams.
