Summary: The role of Database Administrator involves supporting, administering, optimizing, and continuously improving a Microsoft SQL Server estate within a complex IT environment. The position is remote and requires extensive experience in SQL Server performance tuning and a solid technical background in Windows Server and automation. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficiency and reliability of database operations. This is a contract opportunity based in Reading for a duration of 6 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and administer Microsoft SQL Server estate.
- Optimize and improve database performance.
- Perform SQL Server performance tuning and analysis.
- Manage virtualized server environments.
- Implement index tuning, query store, and performance analysis.
- Handle SQL Always On, replication, log shipping, and encryption.
- Automate tasks using PowerShell scripting.
- Provide support for Windows Server and general infrastructure.
- Work with SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, and Power BI.
Key Skills:
- 5+ years in a SQL Server DBA role.
- Strong SQL Server performance tuning and optimization skills.
- Experience with virtualized server environments.
- Knowledge of index tuning, query store, and performance analysis.
- Familiarity with SQL Always On, replication, log shipping, and encryption.
- Proficiency in PowerShell automation and scripting.
- Experience with Windows Server and general infrastructure support.
- Knowledge of SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, and Power BI.
- Desirable: Veeam Backup and Replication, DevOps exposure, ITIL awareness, SolarWinds monitoring experience.
