Job Description
Solution Architect (Content Delivery Network)
Contract Length: 6 months.
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Security Clearance: BPSS Required
Location: Remote/UK Public Sector Department
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect specializing in Content Delivery Network (CDN) technologies to lead a critical optimization and migration assessment for a high-profile UK government web estate.
The current environment spans multiple domains with complex, evolved rule-sets across both Akamai and Azure Front Door (AFD). This role is a balance of strategic discovery and hands-on delivery, focused on rationalizing configurations, implementing robust CDN security controls (WAF, DDoS, rate limiting), and defining a seamless target architecture.
What You'll Do
Divided into two core phases, you will collaborate closely with engineering and DevOps teams to shape and execute the CDN strategy:
Define the Solution: Lead the discovery and assessment of migrating a large, varied web estate from Akamai to AFD. You will evaluate current configurations, identify simplification opportunities, and secure approval for a secure target architecture.
Deliver the Solution: Support the active migration of a pre-defined service to AFD. This includes guiding DevOps engineers through CI/CD pipeline automation, validating code, establishing routes to live, producing operational run-books, and providing hyper-care during cutover.
What We're Looking For
CDN Expertise: Strong, demonstrable experience with both Akamai and Azure Front Door, ideally having led migrations between the two.
DevOps and Automation: Familiarity with implementing CI/CD pipelines to deploy AFD solutions using Azure DevOps and Terraform.
Azure Ecosystem: Deep knowledge of wider Azure infrastructure and security components (eg, Application Gateways, NSGs, Azure Monitor) that integrate with CDN deployments.
Communication: Proven ability to direct technical reviews, collaborate with third-party engineering partners (Capgemini), and present clear, value-driven recommendations to stakeholders.
