Summary: The Solution Designer/Solution Architect role involves supporting the design and delivery of secure and scalable digital services within a government transformation programme. The position requires collaboration with technical and business stakeholders to produce solution designs that align with enterprise architecture standards and business objectives. The successful candidate will work within agile teams to ensure solutions are maintainable and compliant with security requirements. This is a remote position for a 3-month rolling contract with a competitive daily rate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce high-level and low-level solution designs for complex business and technology initiatives.
  • Define solution architectures that meet functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, principles, and target operating models.
  • Create architecture artefacts including diagrams, specifications, and technical decision records.
  • Support architecture governance and design assurance processes.
  • Deliver robust and scalable solution designs aligned to business outcomes.
  • Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, performance, and operational requirements.
  • Support successful delivery of digital transformation initiatives.
  • Maintain architecture standards and contribute to technical excellence across the programme.
  • Work effectively with delivery teams to ensure successful implementation of approved designs.
  • Work closely with business analysts, product owners, delivery managers, and technical teams to understand requirements.
  • Translate business needs into practical and effective technical solutions.
  • Facilitate design workshops and architecture reviews.
  • Communicate architecture decisions and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support agile delivery teams throughout the development life cycle.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure designs are implemented effectively.
  • Identify technical risks, dependencies, and constraints.
  • Contribute to solution estimation, planning, and technical roadmaps.
  • Support cloud-native and hybrid solution designs where appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with the clients security, privacy, accessibility, and operational standards.
  • Support technical design authority and architecture review board processes.
  • Produce and maintain architecture documentation throughout the project life cycle.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of architecture standards and practices.

Key Skills:

  • Demonstrable experience within Solution Design/Architecture.
  • Ability to work independently under general direction.
  • Experience delivering solution designs within complex enterprise environments.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and provide technical guidance to delivery teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience designing enterprise-scale applications and services.
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms including Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Experience designing API-led, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
  • Knowledge of integration patterns and enterprise application architecture.
  • Understanding of security architecture principles and secure-by-design approaches.
  • Experience working within Agile and DevOps delivery environments.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure, networking, and platform technologies.
  • Experience with TOGAF or equivalent architecture frameworks.
  • Experience with ArchiMate, UML, BPMN.
  • Experience with Sparx Enterprise Architect or similar tooling.
  • Experience with Azure Architecture Centre or AWS Well-Architected Framework.
  • Familiarity with Jira and Confluence.
  • Previous central government experience.
  • Familiarity with Government Technology Code of Practice.
  • Experience supporting cloud migration and modernisation programmes.
  • Understanding of security accreditation and government assurance processes.

Role Overview

Looking for an experienced Solution Designer/Architect to support the design and delivery of secure, scalable, and compliant digital services within a large-scale government transformation programme.

Working within agile multidisciplinary teams, the Solution Designer/Solution Architect will be responsible for producing solution designs that align with enterprise architecture standards, business objectives, security requirements, and government digital service principles.

The successful candidate will collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to ensure solutions are deliverable, maintainable, and aligned with strategic architecture roadmaps.
