Summary: The PV Solar Design Engineer role is a remote contract position focused on leading the design and development of solar projects for a renewable energy operator. The engineer will be responsible for reviewing and approving solar PV designs, ensuring compliance with safety and legislative requirements, and managing grid connection applications. Key Responsibilities:
- Review and approve solar PV designs, recommending design or process modifications to enhance efficiency, performance, and quality.
- Lead complete system designs including shading analysis, 3D modelling, electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and connection diagrams using AutoCAD.
- Apply sound engineering judgement to select appropriate parts and components for PV projects.
- Communicate effectively with clients to ensure full understanding of system design and proposals.
- Ensure all designs comply with health & safety, construction, service installation, and relevant legislative requirements.
- Prepare and deliver accurate design documentation for wiring layouts, containment systems, as-built drawings, scaffolding, and fall arrest or work restraint systems.
- Manage the planning and submission of grid connection applications (including G99).
- Maintain accurate design records and project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Skills:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in PV solar design for both rooftop and ground-mounted systems.
- Strong familiarity with PV manufacturers, components, and system configurations.
- Substantial knowledge of HSSE, construction, and services installation legislation.
- Proven experience in small wiring, containment, as-built drawings, scaffolding, and fall protection design.
- Proficient in software such as AutoCAD, PV*SOL, MS Office, and other design and modelling tools.
- Willingness and ability to adopt new software tools as required.
- Thorough understanding and formal training in CDM responsibilities.
- Experience in planning and preparing G99 grid connection applications.
- Full UK or EU driving licence.
