Summary: The Software Engineering Manager role at a leading financial services technology consultancy involves overseeing a team of engineers, ensuring project delivery aligns with business goals, and maintaining strong client relationships. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, fostering a high-performing and accountable culture
- Take ownership of end-to-end delivery, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to a high standard
- Act as the primary point of contact for the client, building strong relationships and guiding them through the delivery lifecycle
- Translate business requirements into clear delivery plans and technical direction
- Drive Agile ways of working, ensuring effective ceremonies and team coordination
- Proactively manage risks, dependencies, and blockers
- Provide technical oversight and governance, ensuring scalable and maintainable solutions
- Support the adoption of modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted approaches where appropriate
- Contribute to high-level solution design and architecture decisions
- Ensure clear communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders
Key Skills:
- Proven experience as a Software Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, or similar leadership role
- Strong track record of leading engineering teams and delivering complex projects
- Experience working directly with clients and stakeholders in a consultancy or delivery environment
- Ability to balance technical credibility with leadership responsibilities
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments
- Familiarity with modern engineering ecosystems (cloud, full-stack, AI-assisted development) beneficial but not essential
- Desirable experience within a Python-led full-stack development, alongside TypeScript, React and Azure environment
- Contributing to platforms supporting financial modelling and forward-looking analytics including discounted cashflow projections and Monte Carlo simulations
- Experience within the pensions sector
