Summary: We are looking for a seasoned SQL Server Database Administrator to enhance and stabilize our case management system within an enterprise-scale environment. The role involves optimizing an existing SQL Server setup, improving merge replication, and troubleshooting issues affecting real-time updates. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in SQL Server and database administration, particularly in complex environments. This is a contract/consulting position with no full-time hire anticipated at this time.
Key Responsibilities:

- Review and improve merge replication between primary and secondary SQL Servers.
- Troubleshoot replication lag, errors, and delays impacting real-time updates.
- Advise on database configuration, CPU requirements, and potential hardware upgrades.

Description
We are seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator with deep expertise in enterprise-scale environments to help optimize and stabilize our case management system.
Project Scope:
Assess and optimize an existing SQL Server environment supporting ~100 concurrent users (originally migrated from Access in 1995).
Review and improve merge replication between the primary SQL Server and a secondary server supporting international users via a third party.
Troubleshoot replication lag, errors, and delays impacting real-time updates, especially issues where PowerBuilder applications do not receive correct identity keys after inserts/updates.
Advise on database configuration, CPU requirements, and potential hardware upgrades to achieve near real-time replication (targeting updates every 60 seconds).
Recommend strategies to improve overall performance and efficiency of the database architecture.
Key Qualifications:
20+ years working with SQL Server in enterprise environments.
Strong experience with merge replication design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Ability to analyze application workflows and optimize database interactions.
Familiarity with PowerBuilder integration is a plus.
