Software Engineer

Posted Today by Principle HR

Contract length: 6 months

Salary: £114,000 per annum

Location: Remote within United Kingdom

The team

You will join an applied AI data and tooling group with two sides to its work.

Upstream, you will help run the evaluation infrastructure used by engineers building frontier AI models.

Downstream, you will support product teams shipping AI features such as text summarisation and agentic editing.

The mission is to give every team member the output of a dedicated engineer, data scientist and designer by building agentic workflows and automating work that is currently done manually.

What you will do

  • Partner with technical and non-technical users, including annotators, to understand the problem before choosing a solution
  • Design, build, test, launch and operate end-to-end internal products, integrations and data workflows
  • Turn prototypes and one-off scripts into reliable, reusable self-service tools
  • Build evaluation and feedback loops for AI-powered and agentic workflows
  • Apply strong production practices: automated testing, observability, actionable errors and safe failure handling
  • Work as an AI-native engineer, using tools like Claude Code and Codex day to day while reviewing and validating everything they produce
  • Measure adoption, quality, time saved and reduction in manual work
  • Own several workstreams at once and make clear trade-offs based on impact and complexity

What you will bring

  • 6+ years building production software as a software, product, ML or AI engineer
  • A track record of independently owning products from an ambiguous problem through to launch and iteration
  • Strong skills in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, C++ or similar
  • Experience building or integrating APIs, backend services, data pipelines or full-stack products, including debugging complex integrations
  • Strong product judgment
  • Clear communication with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
  • A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Nice to have

  • Experience building LLM-powered products, AI evaluation systems or agentic workflows
  • Experience building internal tools, developer platforms or self-service capabilities
  • Experience applying responsible AI practices such as quality, accuracy and bias reviews

What you can expect

  • 25 days annual leave plus company days and 9 public holidays
  • Weekly pay
  • Pension scheme

You will be employed by Principle HR and assigned to our client, with full support from a dedicated consultant throughout your contract.

Candidates must be based in the UK for the duration of the contract.
