Primary Responsibilities: The consultant will:
- Partner closely with DotCIO staff, including our SharePoint administrator/developer, to design and implement modern SharePoint Online and Microsoft Teams solutions.
- Meet directly with CIO and selected executive leaders to gather requirements and translate business needs into effective digital workplace solutions.
- Design and build modern SharePoint sites, communication sites, hubs, intranet components, document management solutions, and Teams-integrated collaborative workspaces.
- Provide backend architecture guidance for SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, and OneDrive for Business, including Teams-connected SharePoint sites, Microsoft 365 Group-backed workspaces, channel and library structure, permissions design, sharing behavior, synchronization considerations, and administrative governance impacts.
- Create visually engaging, intuitive, and professional user experiences that improve adoption and engagement.
- Advise on best practices related to information architecture, navigation, permissions, governance, content organization, and lifecycle management.
- Work collaboratively and transparently with internal staff, transferring knowledge and documenting solutions to ensure long-term sustainability.
- Support project delivery in an environment with a moderate sense of urgency while maintaining quality and customer satisfaction.
Required Qualifications: Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with:
- SharePoint Online
- Microsoft Teams
- Microsoft 365 Collaboration Services
Demonstrated experience designing and implementing:
- Modern SharePoint Communication Sites
- Team Sites
- Hub Sites
- Intranet solutions
- Document Management solutions
Strong understanding of:
- Information Architecture
- Content Strategy
- Governance Frameworks
- Security and Permissions Models
- Metadata and Records Management
Experience gathering business requirements from executive and senior leadership stakeholders.
Hands-on experience with the administrative and architectural dependencies among SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive for Business, and Microsoft 365 Groups, including how collaboration spaces are provisioned, secured, governed, and maintained in Microsoft 365.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to facilitate discovery sessions, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
Proven ability to work independently while also functioning as a collaborative member of a larger team.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education, research, government, or other complex organizational environments.
