ServiceNow SDET Consultant (Software Development Engineer in Test)
Location: Remote
Need active security clearance
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled ServiceNow SDET Consultant to champion software quality and test automation architecture across our enterprise ServiceNow platform. In this consultative, engineering-heavy role, you will design, develop, and implement scalable automated testing frameworks that go far beyond out-of-the-box configurations.
You will treat test suites as production-grade software writing clean, maintainable JavaScript, building custom Automated Test Framework (ATF) components, and seamlessly embedding quality gates into our CI/CD pipelines. The ideal candidate brings a developer s mindset to quality engineering, possesses deep familiarity with modern workspace UI architectures, and can advise stakeholders on platform upgrade readiness strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation Framework Engineering: Architect and scale an enterprise-wide automation framework leveraging ServiceNow ATF (Automated Test Framework) alongside external automation tools (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, or Cypress) where cross-platform end-to-end testing is required.
- Custom Test Engineering: Develop reusable Custom ATF Test Steps and Step Configurations using Server-Side (Glide API, Script Includes) and Client-Side JavaScript to handle complex custom widgets, asynchronous integrations, and advanced UI behaviors.
- Pipeline & CI/CD Integration: Design and implement "Shift-Left" testing strategies by integrating automated test suites into DevOps pipelines (via GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps), enabling automated regression testing on every code commit or Update Set batching.
- Next-Gen UI Testing: Build and maintain automated testing strategies for modern, complex interfaces including ServiceNow Workspace UI, Service Portals / EC Pro, and Configurable Dashboards.
- Data-Driven Test Architecture: Implement advanced test-data management strategies. Design automated scripts that independently provision, track, and cleanly tear down their own mock transactional data without polluting production-bound configurations.
- Platform Upgrade Leadership: Own the technical regression strategy for bi-annual ServiceNow platform upgrades. Analyze skipped changes, evaluate test failures to isolate true platform regressions from test script issues, and accelerate upgrade timelines.
- Technical Consulting & Governance: Act as a trusted advisor to developers, architects, and business stakeholders. Establish development standards for testability, conduct code reviews for test automation scripts, and define platform quality metrics.
Technical Qualifications
- ServiceNow Development Background: 5+ years of core technical experience within the ServiceNow ecosystem, acting as a Developer or SDET, with a comprehensive mastery of ATF.
- Advanced Scripting & Web Languages: Expert-level JavaScript proficiency. Strong working knowledge of ServiceNow API structures (GlideRecord, GlideAggregate, RESTMessageV2, g_form, g_user).
- Modern UI & Framework Architecture: Deep understanding of web technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JSON, XML) and modern front-end frameworks like AngularJS, React, and Next.js, which is critical for interacting with and testing custom Workspace UI structures.
- Integration Testing Expertise: Proven experience scripting and validating complex inbound/outbound integrations (REST/SOAP) and event-driven architectures.
- DevOps & Git Tooling: Hands-on experience with source control tools (Git/GitHub), branch management strategies, and building automated pipelines.
Preferred Certifications
- ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)
- ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD)
- Highly Desirable: ServiceNow Micro-Certification: Automated Test Framework or DevOps.
- Plus: Industry QA certifications (e.g., ISTQB Advanced Technical Test Analyst).
Consulting & Professional Competencies
- Problem-Solving & Root Cause Analysis: Ability to debug complex platform issues by tracing errors through System Logs, Browser Consoles, Script Includes, and Access Control Lists (ACLs).
- Consultative Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate technical testing architectures, defect metrics, and risk assessments to both technical teams and C-level stakeholders.
- Agile Mentality: Comfortable operating in fast-paced Scrum environments, actively contributing to sprint planning, and converting user stories into automated technical acceptance criteria.
