Service Engineer

Summary

We are seeking a senior Client (Building Automation System) Design Engineer to support building automation and controls delivery for critical facility infrastructure. The role begins with technical review of Client vendor submittal packages against controls design standards and expands as the business grows into producing Client submittal packages directly, following the same structure and rigor used today for EPMS submittals. This is a hands-on engineering role. The successful candidate operates independently at a senior level, sets technical direction on their reviews and designs, and provides guidance to more junior controls staff.

Responsibilities

  • Review Client vendor and integrator submittals, shop drawings, and controls programming for compliance with controls design standards and design intent.
  • Review submittal content including sequences of operations, points lists, controls schematics, riser and network architecture diagrams, panel and device schedules, bill of materials, and product data.
  • Issue clear, technically grounded review comments, track them to closure through package revisions, and recommend approval status.
  • Validate controls hardware and communication architectures across common protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, MQTT) and platforms (DDC controllers, PLC and SCADA).
  • Confirm HVAC, mechanical, and electrical controls integration meets reliability, resiliency, and operability requirements for critical and mission critical facilities.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and facility engineering counterparts on design reviews, RFIs, and field issues raised against submittals.
  • Produce Client submittal packages directly, following the same structure and rigor used today for EPMS submittal packages.
  • Develop and own Client and DDC deliverables: sequences of operations, points lists, network architecture, riser diagrams, controls schematics, panel and device schedules, and specifications.
  • Author and maintain design standards, guide specifications, templates, and reference designs for building automation and controls.
  • Drive resolution of design gaps and standardization opportunities identified during submittal review.
  • Contribute to design reviews and provide technical guidance to junior controls design engineers.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing Client vendor submittal packages against a design standard, issuing technically grounded comments, and dispositioning them to closure through package revisions.
  • The ability to independently produce complete Client design packages, including sequences of operations, points lists, controls schematics, riser and network architecture diagrams, panel and device schedules, and specifications.
  • Strong working knowledge of building automation protocols such as BACnet and Modbus, and of DDC and PLC controls platforms.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC and mechanical and electrical systems as they relate to controls integration.
  • Proficiency with design and documentation tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Visio.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to represent design intent to integrators, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Controls design experience in mission critical, data center, or critical facility environments.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
  • Experience authoring or maintaining controls design standards across a portfolio of projects.
  • Familiarity with electrical power monitoring system submittal packages and how they are structured.
  • Prior experience delivering in a vendor or consulting model.
