Summary: The SEO Director at Eastside Co is a senior role focused on leading the SEO strategy for ecommerce clients, ensuring measurable performance outcomes and commercial impact. This position involves managing a growing team, collaborating with various departments, and enhancing client relationships while driving the evolution of SEO practices within the agency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SEO, particularly in an agency or ecommerce context, and a passion for continuous improvement and team development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own SEO/GEO/AEO strategy across a portfolio of ecommerce clients
- Build clear, actionable, commercially focused and forward-looking SEO roadmaps aligned to client goals
- Act as a senior point of contact for key clients
- Ensure SEO activity is demonstrably relatable to measurable performance outcomes such as revenue and growth
- Stay involved in delivery where needed, particularly on complex or high-value accounts
- Oversee technical SEO, content strategy and link acquisition activity
- Ensure best practice across Shopify sites, including migrations and structural changes
- Oversee platform migrations from other technologies to Shopify, safeguarding organic visibility
- Produce clear, insight-driven monthly reports that demonstrate progress and value
- Maintain and ensure a consistently high standard of output across all work and the work of direct reports
- Lead and develop the SEO team
- Support hiring as the function grows
- Set clear expectations and create a strong performance culture
- Help individuals progress and improve their skills
- Evolve the SEO proposition for Eastside in line with market developments
- Define how SEO should be delivered for modern ecommerce brands
- Develop and implement, as well as follow processes, frameworks and ways of working
- Identify opportunities to continue to improve integration SEO with other channels such as paid media and CRO
- Keep the agency up to date with changes in search and ecommerce
- Support new business pitches and proposals
- Actively identify opportunities to grow existing accounts
- Contribute to revenue growth through strong performance and client relationships
- Help evolve the positioning of SEO as a core part of the agency’s offer
Key Skills:
- Strong background in SEO, ideally within an agency or ecommerce environment (5+ years experience)
- Proven experience delivering organic growth for ecommerce brands
- Solid technical SEO knowledge including crawling, indexing and site structure
- Demonstrable success of delivering SEO work through automation, processes and technology adoption/development
- Good understanding of content strategy and authority building
- Experience working with Shopify is a strong advantage
- Experience leading or mentoring others
- Comfortable switching between strategy and hands-on work
- Commercial mindset with a focus on outcomes, not just activity
- A natural problem solver who enjoys providing solutions for clients
- A confident, dynamic, engaging and authentic communicator who cares about the quality of work and continuous learning
- Excellent presentation skills and strong data analysis and reporting skills

The Role
This is a senior role with real influence across the business. You will shape how SEO/GEO is delivered at Eastside Co, while still being close enough to the work to ensure quality and results. You will lead a growing team, work closely with other departments, and play a key role in client relationships. The focus is on delivering meaningful commercial impact, not just rankings or traffic. This role would suit someone who enjoys building and improving things, not just maintaining what already exists.
