Summary: The Senior Z/OS IMS Database Administrator role focuses on managing and supporting mainframe IMS databases for the State of Texas. The position requires extensive hands-on experience in IMS database administration, including performance tuning and recovery operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills and be able to troubleshoot database issues effectively. This is a long-term contract position that emphasizes practical expertise over theoretical knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer IMS databases including tuning, backup & recovery, and performance monitoring
  • Perform DBRC forward recoveries and database restorations
  • Troubleshoot IMS database issues in production & test environments
  • Assist application programmers with DBRC-related issues
  • Refresh Dev/Test databases from production backups
  • Maintain Mainframe OS administration & disaster recovery with vendors
  • Support COBOL & JCL batch processing for mainframe applications
  • Provide technical support for mainframe operations and deployments

Key Skills:

  • 12+ years of experience in Mainframe IMS Database Administration
  • Hands-on expertise with DBRC, IMS HAL, IMS Catalog, RECONS, DBRC forward recoveries
  • Strong knowledge of z/OS utilities: TSO, SDSF, SYSVIEW, IDCAMS, IEBGENER, IEFBR14
  • Proficiency in JCL, CICS, VSAM, TSO, REXX scripting
  • Experience troubleshooting IMS database issues & production abends
  • Understanding of ISPF panels, batch SFTP/FTPS, and ISMF storage functions
  • Working knowledge of Top Secret security setup & administration
  • Familiarity with Informatica PowerExchange for IMS and VSAM datasets
