Summary: The Senior z/OS Automation Engineer role is a fully remote position focused on consulting with engineering teams to enhance software and hardware interfaces, while also developing and validating software systems. The engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, and directing software programming efforts, ensuring effective communication with customers and departments regarding project statuses and technical issues. This position requires strong expertise in z/OS operations and various subsystems, along with problem-solving and analytical skills. The role also emphasizes the importance of soft skills, including communication and time management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consult with engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software, develop specifications and performance requirements and resolve customer problems.
  • Advise about, or perform, maintenance of software system.
  • Develop and direct software system testing and validation procedures.
  • Inform customers or other departments on project status, proposals and technical issues such as software system design and maintenance.
  • Direct software programming and development of documentation.
  • Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle: from business/systems analysis, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing and delivery.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issue. Knowledge of computer development software, such as SQL, Java, J2EE, etc.

Key Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in z/OS (MVS) operations in a large-scale shop with multiple Sysplex environments including IPL procedures.
  • Current working knowledge of subsystems such as JES2, SDSF, RACF, TSO, TCPIP, Control-M, CICS, DB2 etc.
  • Expertise in NetView customization, and REXX programming
  • Strong knowledge and experience of the System Automation policy database customization, command list creation, and managing NetView automation tables to improve system resiliency.
  • Knowledge of SA-plex and cross-system automation.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting on exceptions
  • Problem Determination & Resolution: Strong debugging and analytical skills to resolve automation issues.
