Summary: The Senior Test Engineer will play a pivotal role in a major UK public-sector digital programme, providing technical leadership and defining the overall testing strategy. This position requires the ability to manage testing activities, drive improvements, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. The role involves planning and executing a variety of testing techniques while ensuring best practices are followed. The engineer will also be responsible for defect management and promoting a culture of experimentation within teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define the overall testing strategy and provide technical leadership to test engineering teams.
- Ensure best practices are in place and drive improvements by sharing knowledge across teams.
- Manage planning of system and acceptance tests, coordinating functional and non-functional specifications.
- Design and execute a wide range of non-functional testing techniques and communicate results.
- Raise defects with the business and help prioritize them based on severity.
- Encourage a mindset of experimentation and help teams manage and visualize outcomes.
- Ensure the right tools and methodologies are used and promote their use.
- Understand technical concepts and their fit within the wider technical landscape.

We are looking for a Senior Test Engineer to support a leading technology consultancy on a major UK public-sector digital programme, working with a central government end client.
Job Description:
- Senior Test Engineer will define the overall testing strategy, provide technical leadership and guidance to test engineering teams, and have oversight of all testing activities.
- Ensure that best practices are in place, and drive improvements by sharing knowledge and resources across teams.
- Able to think outside the box, ask the right questions and critically evaluate and communicate findings. Can absorb large amounts of conflicting information and use it to determine solutions.
- Manages planning of system and / or acceptance tests, coordinating both functional and non-functional specifications.
- Design and execute a wide range of non-functional testing techniques and communicate results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Able to make decisions on running types of non-functional testing. Raise defects with the business and help prioritise them based on defect severity.
- Able to recognise when something does not work and encourages a mind-set of experimentation. Help teams to manage and visualise outcomes, prioritise work and work to agreed minimum viable product (MVP)
- Makes sure that the right tools/methodologies are used and promotes the use of these.
- Has a deep understanding of the technical concepts required in their role and understands how these fit into the wider technical landscape. Understands the limitations of digital technology.
