They are seeking an experienced Senior Test Engineer to join a critical product engineering team focused on improving platform reliability, quality and commercial performance within a complex Back End environment.
About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Test Engineer who enjoys influencing engineering teams, improving quality practices and helping developers build highly testable systems.
You will work closely with software engineers, product managers and stakeholders to embed testing throughout the software development life cycle and ensure changes are released with confidence.
Responsibilities
- Champion testing and quality throughout the software development life cycle.
- Perform end-to-end testing across Back End services, integrations and data flows.
- Work closely with developers to improve system testability and observability.
- Review and understand Java and Perl code to support troubleshooting and quality discussions.
- Advocate for testing activities to be completed before production release.
- Drive improvements to Agile practices including refinement, planning and quality reviews.
- Support defect management processes and ensure issues are consistently tracked and triaged.
- Validate system behaviour through data, service and event-based testing.
- Contribute to automation improvements where they provide clear value and confidence.
- Record and maintain high-quality test evidence and release documentation.
- Challenge assumptions and identify opportunities to improve engineering quality practices.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Strong experience as a Test Engineer within Back End or platform-focused environments.
- Excellent manual testing experience across APIs, services, integrations and data-driven systems.
- Experience reading and understanding production code, ideally within Java and/or Perl environments.
- Strong understanding of software testability principles.
- Experience working within Agile delivery teams and advocating for best practices.
- Ability to influence developers and stakeholders on quality-related decisions.
- Strong defect management, risk assessment and test evidence practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience testing event-driven or distributed systems would be advantageous.
- Exposure to technologies such as Kafka, Kubernetes and MySQL would be beneficial.
- Experience contributing to test automation and integration testing is desirable.
- Understanding of non-functional testing, reliability and operational risk would be advantageous.

Whilst automation experience is welcomed, the successful candidate will recognise that this is primarily a manual testing and quality advocacy role rather than a dedicated automation engineering position.
