Summary: The Senior SQL Database Administrator will be responsible for maintaining and improving complex Microsoft SQL database objects, troubleshooting performance issues, and collaborating with teams to implement business rules for data warehousing. This full-time remote contract position requires extensive experience in SQL database management, particularly within a healthcare claims environment. The role demands strong problem-solving and communication skills, along with the ability to work independently. Candidates should possess relevant Microsoft certifications and a minimum of six years of experience in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, improve, and create new complex Microsoft SQL database objects, including but not limited to stored procedures and functions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues.
- Design, document, create, unit and system test, deploy, and maintain databases, including data warehouses.
- Collaborate with the business and other teams to develop and implement business rules for the data warehouse.
- Support the development team with database-related issues.
- Develop reference and workflow documents for documentation purposes.
- Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems to advise the Data Manager, Director of Business Systems, and/or Chief Information Officer.
- Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate the time and cost required to accomplish tasks.
- Discover and contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of Informatics functional architecture and systems design to deliver IT outcomes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key Skills:
- Minimum 6 years of experience or equivalent higher education, preferably in a healthcare claims environment.
- Microsoft data systems certifications, such as MTA, MCSA, MCSE, ITIL v3, or equivalent.
- 2-year degree required; applicable certifications may substitute for an equivalent degree.
- Advanced knowledge of SQL and MS SQL Server operating systems.
- Experience with Visual Studio for database projects (currently on 2019 Pro or Enterprise).
- Expertise in database development, maintenance, and execution of mission-critical large-scale system upgrades.
- Advanced knowledge in ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and data warehousing.
- Understanding of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) principles.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps as a platform for demand repository, workflow management, and source control/code promotion.
- Proficiency in Agile methodologies, including User Stories, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Continuous Deployment, and Automated testing.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills for interaction with various stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and unsupervised, setting and adjusting priorities as needed.
