Summary: The Senior Software Engineer role focuses on leading the migration and transformation of a large API estate into Azure, while evolving a monolithic architecture into a scalable, event-driven ecosystem. This hands-on architecture position requires collaboration with engineering teams to define standards and support a long-term modernization strategy. The role is critical in shaping the future architecture of a business-critical platform. The contract is for an initial duration of 6 months with strong potential for extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading the migration of business-critical APIs from on-premise environments into Azure
- Defining and driving API architecture across a complex technology landscape
- Decomposing a large API monolith into scalable, independently deployable services
- Introducing and embedding event-driven architecture principles
- Supporting the adoption of Kafka-based messaging and integration patterns
- Working closely with development teams to ensure architectural alignment and technical quality
- Helping establish best practices around scalability, resilience, security, and maintainability
Key Skills:
- Proven experience operating as an API Architect, Solution Architect, or Senior Backend Architect
- Strong background in API design and integration architecture
- Experience delivering cloud migration and modernisation programmes
- Deep understanding of microservices and distributed systems
- Experience designing event-driven architectures
- Ability to balance strategic architecture with practical delivery support

We're supporting a major cloud transformation programme and are looking for an experienced API Architect to help modernise a critical enterprise platform.
This role is focused on transforming a large API estate, migrating services from on-premise infrastructure into Azure, and evolving a monolithic architecture into a modern, scalable, event-driven ecosystem.
This is a hands-on architecture role where you'll work closely with engineering teams to define architectural standards, guide implementation, and support the delivery of a long-term modernisation strategy.
