Summary: Morgan Hunt is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) / Unix Infrastructure Engineer for a 6-month remote contract role, with occasional travel to Scotland. The position focuses on the deployment, migration, and optimization of critical infrastructure services, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery readiness across various environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with RHEL, Oracle DB, Kubernetes, and AWS, along with a strong emphasis on automation and security compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support migration and deployment of services to RHEL 8/9.
  • Maintain and enhance UNIX infrastructure (existing & new deployments).
  • Optimise existing services & infrastructure for performance and security.
  • Support Ansible Automation Platform for OS/application deployments.
  • Manage Oracle Database 19c on Oracle Linux (KVM).
  • Strengthen automation for disaster recovery (DR) activities.
  • Work towards Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of 2hrs & Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of zero.
  • Conduct DR testing (3 scheduled tests per financial year, potentially outside core hours).
  • Maintain CommVault backup administration (Oracle DB, RHEL, MongoDB).
  • Support logging & observability stacks (InfluxDB, Grafana, Prometheus, Nagios).
  • Enhance monitoring via REST APIs, time-series databases, and full-stack tools (TICK, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch).
  • Promote SLO/SLI measurement & tracking.
  • Drive security improvements & vulnerability remediation.
  • Perform regular RHEL/KVM patching & hardening.
  • Manage Red Hat Satellite & Ansible Automation Platform.
  • Support Palo Alto XDR across the estate.
  • Work with AWS services (VPC, EC2, S3, NLB) using IaC (Terraform/CDK).
  • Support CI/CD pipelines (Git, Ansible, Git runners).
  • Administer containerised environments (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
