Summary: The role of Senior Service Designer at the Intellectual Property Office involves developing service design best practices and mentoring colleagues in user-centered design. Key Responsibilities:

On behalf of the Intellectual Property Office, we are looking for a Senior Service Designer (Inside IR35) for a 12 month remote contract with occasional visits to the Newport office.

The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) is the official UK government body responsible for intellectual property (IP) rights including patents, designs, trademarks and copyright. Our ambition is to be the best IP office, and we intend to achieve this by:

We are responsible for:
. IPO Policy
. educating businesses and consumers about IP rights and responsibilities
. supporting IP enforcement
. granting UK Patents, trademarks and design rights

As a Senior Service Designer:

Key Tasks and Deliverables
. Develop service, interaction and content design best practice, standards, and guidance
. Lead Community of Practice activities internally and across government
. Take responsibility for mentoring colleagues in UCD best practice
. Work to agreed quality of standards, procedures, and processes in accordance with IPO and Government Digital Service (GDS) requirements and contribute to the iteration of these through the service design and content communities
. Promote the value of a consistent high-quality user experience, through design and use of reusable elements, proactively engaging with colleagues across the organisation and promoting service design best practice across the IPO
. Support service owners to ensure their services meet the performance requirements set out in the Digital by Default Service Standard
. Challenge constraints and assumptions around service needs, requirements, or delivery approach
. Work across multi-disciplinary teams to design and deliver user focused end -to-end services across all IPO channels
. Balance user needs, organisational requirements, and wider government approach and recommendations against cost/effort, with consideration to delivering solutions that are appropriately scoped for all stakeholders

Experience/Qualifications required.
. Experience of user centred-design deliverables, for example service blueprints, user flows, process flows and site maps
. Experience of leading community of practice activities
. Experience of mentoring and coaching designers across the user-centred design profession
. Experience of working in an agile, multi-disciplinary team environment; able to deliver iterative design components as part of a project team
. Experience in writing plain English content that is accessible, usable and complies with GDS writing style
. Experience of working with the GOV.UK Design System, Service Manual and design principles including recommending new patterns or updating exiting patterns into the GOV.UK design system
. Experience of working with prototyping tools, including GOV.UK prototype kit and Adobe XD
. Knowledge and experience of HTML/CSS
. Experience of facilitating design activities with others
. Experience of using data to inform design decisions
. Experience of designing accessible solutions, across a range of channels, to meet customer needs
. Experience of conducting usability testing, either directly or alongside user researchers
