Summary: We are looking for a Senior to Principal Protection & Control Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team focused on high-voltage substation and switchyard projects. The role involves delivering advanced protection and control solutions, technical delivery, engineering design, and project leadership. The successful candidate will ensure high-quality deliverables while collaborating with various stakeholders. This position is remote, with a preference for candidates in the Reading, PA time zone.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute complex protection and control engineering assignments for high-voltage substations (69kV+)
  • Design and implement protection schemes (line, transformer, bus, feeder)
  • Perform relay settings, protection coordination, and fault analysis
  • Prepare engineering deliverables including protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay settings files and technical documentation
  • Collaborate with project managers, drafters, civil/structural teams, and field personnel
  • Perform technical reviews and quality assurance checks on engineering work
  • Support proposal development, including cost estimates and technical scope input
  • Act as lead engineer on complex projects, ensuring quality and delivery standards
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance
  • Interface with clients and external stakeholders
  • Participate in site visits and walkdowns as required

Key Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum 8–10 years (Senior) or 12+ years (Principal/Senior Principal) in Protection & Control engineering
  • Demonstrated experience with high-voltage substations (69kV and above)
  • Strong background in power delivery / transmission & distribution (T&D)
  • Proven experience in relay configuration and settings (SEL, ABB, Siemens, GE or similar)
  • Protection coordination and studies
  • IEC 61850 and substation automation (preferred)
  • Experience using industry tools such as SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, CYMCAP/CDAC
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and industry practices (IEEE, ANSI, etc.)
  • Experience contributing to technical proposals and cost estimates
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills
  • Preferred experience with EPC or engineering consulting firms

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior to Principal Protection & Control Engineer to support substation and power network projects as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team. This role will focus on delivering advanced protection and control solutions across high-voltage substation and switchyard projects, including greenfield developments and brownfield upgrades.

The successful candidate will play a key role in technical delivery, engineering design, and project leadership, while contributing to high-quality deliverables for a range of clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute complex protection and control engineering assignments for high-voltage substations (69kV+)

  • Design and implement protection schemes (line, transformer, bus, feeder)

  • Perform relay settings, protection coordination, and fault analysis

  • Prepare engineering deliverables including:

    • Protection and control schematics

    • Wiring diagrams

    • Relay settings files and technical documentation

  • Collaborate with project managers, drafters, civil/structural teams, and field personnel

    • Generation-only experience will not be considered

  • Proven experience in:

    • Relay configuration and settings (SEL, ABB, Siemens, GE or similar)

    • Protection coordination and studies

    • IEC 61850 and substation automation (preferred)

  • Experience using industry tools such as:

    • SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, CYMCAP/CDAC (level of proficiency should be clearly demonstrated)

  • Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and industry practices (IEEE, ANSI, etc.)

  • Experience contributing to technical proposals and cost estimates

  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills

  • Preferred experience with EPC or engineering consulting firms

  • Candidates with transmission line-only experience will not be considered

Location & Eligibility

  • Remote work available for U.S.-based candidates

  • Preference for candidates located in or able to work aligned with the Reading, PA time zone

  • Candidates requiring a TN visa must relocate to Reading, PA and work onsite

  • Candidates in distant time zones (e.g., California) will be considered only if highly qualified and flexible
