Summary: The role of Senior Property Solicitor involves managing complex commercial property and development matters for a local authority in Greater Manchester. This locum position is available on a full-time basis for an initial 3-month contract, with the possibility of remote work. Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing and advising on a caseload of highly complex commercial property and development matters on behalf of the local authority.
  • Leading on property disposals, acquisitions, sales, and leaseback arrangements, ensuring transactions align with the authority’s strategic and commercial objectives.
  • Providing expert legal advice on major development projects, working closely with internal stakeholders, external partners, and developers.
  • Drafting, negotiating, and completing a wide range of commercial property documentation, including agreements for sale, leases, development agreements, and ancillary documents.
  • Advising on and applying complex tax provisions relevant to commercial property transactions, including VAT, SDLT, and other associated tax considerations.
  • Ensuring all transactions comply with local government law, governance requirements, and best value obligations.

Key Skills:

  • Minimum 10-15 years PQE as a qualified Solicitor, with consideration for CILEx qualified candidates.
  • Significant experience in Local Government property law.
  • Experience dealing with complex commercial property matters.
  • Experience dealing with development matters and projects.
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills for commercial property documentation.
  • Knowledge of tax provisions relevant to commercial property transactions.

Detailed Description From Employer:

Our client, based in Greater Manchester , is currently recruiting for a locum Senior Property Solicitor on an initial 3-month contract. The position is due to start immediately on a full-time basis, and the hourly rate is negotiable depending on candidate experience & expectations. The role can be conducted remotely , but any successful candidates will need to attend to collect their equipment. The ideal candidate will have minimum 10-15 years PQE, and significant experience with Local Government property law.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Managing and advising on a caseload of highly complex commercial property and development matters on behalf of the local authority
  • Leading on property disposals, acquisitions, sales and leaseback arrangements, ensuring transactions align with the authority’s strategic and commercial objectives
  • Providing expert legal advice on major development projects, working closely with internal stakeholders, external partners, and developers

Working hours: 35 hours per week Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm
