Summary: The Senior PHP Developer role involves developing, maintaining, and supporting digital services using modern technologies, with a focus on PHP (Drupal 10, WordPress), JavaScript/TypeScript, and Node.js. The position requires delivering secure and accessible applications that comply with government digital standards while engaging in agile practices and continuous improvement. The role is fully remote and has a duration of 6 months, starting as soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and support digital services using modern technologies such as PHP (Drupal 10, WordPress), JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, and HTML/CSS.
  • Deliver secure, scalable and accessible applications that meet user needs and adhere to government digital standards.
  • Build and maintain APIs for internal and external consumption.
  • Develop automated tests and integrate testing into continuous delivery pipelines using Cypress.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and containerised environments using Docker, Kubernetes, Helm charts, etc.
  • Use version control tools (e.g. Git) effectively to manage code and collaborate with other developers.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Engage in peer reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Skills:

  • Strong experience in PHP development, particularly with Drupal 10 and WordPress.
  • Good knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and experience working with Node.js.
  • Experience with Cypress or similar testing tools.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps practices, including Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Comfortable working across both front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and back-end systems.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Ability to build and maintain automated test suites in support of a Continuous Development environment.
  • Familiarity with building accessible and user-centered services in line with GDS and GOV.UK Service Standards.
