Summary: The OpenShift Platform Engineer role focuses on supporting a critical Webscale 1.6 migration initiative, which involves modernizing OpenShift clusters while ensuring they remain on vendor-supported versions. Key Responsibilities:
- Execute the Webscale 1.6 platform migration across the cluster fleet, including blue/green upgrades and standard in-service upgrades.
- Plan, validate, and perform OpenShift and Kubernetes cluster upgrades while minimizing service disruption.
- Support OpenShift cluster migrations across the platform environment.
- Ensure the platform and its add-on services remain on vendor-supported versions throughout the migration.
- Deploy, configure, and support OpenShift and Kubernetes distributions across the fleet.
- Automate upgrade and operational workflows using Bash, Ansible, and Python.
- Manage configuration and platform changes using Git, GitLab, GitHub, and CI/CD workflows.
- Troubleshoot platform, networking, storage, and add-on service issues, including NFS, SDN, and related components.
- Document upgrade procedures, operational runbooks, and best practices.
- Collaborate closely with operations, deployment, and engineering teams to ensure a safe and repeatable migration process.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders and team members regarding upgrade planning, execution status, risks, and issue resolution.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or four or more years of relevant work experience.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience, demonstrated through one or a combination of professional work experience, military experience, or specialized training.
- Strong Linux system administration skills.
- Hands-on experience deploying, configuring, upgrading, and supporting OpenShift or Kubernetes environments.
- Strong OpenShift platform engineering experience.
- Experience supporting cluster upgrades, migrations, or large-scale platform modernization efforts.
- Experience with automation tools and scripting, including Bash, Ansible, and Python.
- Working knowledge of the Kubernetes API Server.
- Knowledge of NFS and networking fundamentals.
- Working knowledge of Git, GitLab, GitHub, and CI/CD workflows.
