Summary: The Senior MS SQL DBA Consultant role is a remote position requiring extensive experience in MS SQL Server database administration, particularly with SQL Server 2019/2022 and Always-On Availability Groups. The consultant will be responsible for performance tuning, managing large databases, and ensuring high availability and disaster recovery. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in database security and monitoring tools, with a preference for independent consultants based in the USA or holding an EAD.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and optimize MS SQL Server databases, focusing on performance tuning and execution plans.
- Handle large databases (4–5 TB+) and ensure high availability using Always-On Availability Groups.
- Utilize monitoring tools like SolarWinds DPA to track database performance.
- Implement database security measures, including authentication modes and encryption.
- Address performance bottlenecks and manage data archiving and compliance controls.
- Support cloud migration efforts, particularly with Azure SQL Managed Instance.
Key Skills:
- 8–12+ years of MS SQL Server DBA experience.
- Strong experience with SQL Server 2019/2022.
- Expertise in query tuning and indexing strategies.
- Knowledge of CPU, Memory (PLE), and I/O performance tuning.
- Experience with HA/DR architectures and backup tools (Veeam preferred).
- Hands-on experience with Windows Server environments and virtualization.
