Summary: The Senior Machine Learning Expert role focuses on authoring high-fidelity reasoning traces to enhance the decision-making capabilities of large language models. This fully remote position is designed for senior-level professionals who excel in complex problem-solving and wish to contribute significantly to the development of advanced AI systems. The role involves mentoring, designing workflows, and developing data strategies to improve model performance. Candidates should possess deep expertise in machine learning and a strong ability to communicate technical reasoning clearly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Author complex, high-fidelity reasoning traces that capture how an LLM should plan, reason, and take action step by step across sophisticated technical tasks
- Design and document decision-making workflows that reflect real-world problem-solving — including tool use, multi-step planning, and error recovery
- Review and mentor reasoning trace quality to ensure logical consistency, clarity, and optimal structure
- Develop data strategies that help LLMs navigate intricate, ambiguous, and high-stakes scenarios reliably
- Apply your architectural knowledge of ML systems to produce training data that meaningfully improves model performance
Key Skills:
- Deeply experienced in machine learning, AI research, or a closely related technical field
- Able to decompose complex, multi-step problems into clear, structured, and logical reasoning chains
- Familiar with how large language models are trained, evaluated, and improved
- Sharp, methodical, and precise — you think carefully about edge cases and failure modes
- A strong written communicator who can document technical reasoning in a clear, structured format
- Self-directed and comfortable working independently without close supervision
- Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assurance, or model evaluation pipelines (nice to have)
- Top-tier Kaggle competition results (Grandmaster or Master level) demonstrating advanced understanding of model performance and feature engineering (nice to have)
- Hands-on experience designing or evaluating LLM benchmarks, RLHF datasets, or reasoning datasets (nice to have)
- Background in AI safety, interpretability, or alignment research (nice to have)
